We are never too old for dreams to take flight.

travel stories from an old broad and a passport

ARE YOU DREAMING OF TRAVEL?
ARE YOU TRAVELING VICARIOUSLY?
IS THERE AN ADVENTUROUS, KICK-ASS, WORLD TRAVELLING DIVA IN YOU WHO IS SCREAMING TO GET OUT THERE?

That was me once. Now here I am, with my own blog!

Which, I might add, I did on my own. It only took 8 months, a few hundred viewings of YouTube “how to” videos and cursing in a variety of languages. (one should always learn a few key words before travelling to another country – like please, thank you, where is the toilet and local speak for &^%^^&& – helpful when you need to balance yourself a stand-up toilet late into a rough 3rd class 12-hour train ride)

My learning curve also required the occasional glass of wine, a lot of whining to my amazingly patient friends, and frequent consumption of chocolate – but here it is! And I did not call my brilliant sons even once to rescue me from the website design hell I had placed myself into

Oh – and in case you are wondering about the name of my blog. Many years ago, I was travelling with a group of much younger people, when one particularly mouthy young male made a statement about the ability of this “old broad” to undertake the trip. Challenge accepted! This “old broad” out-did, out-lasted and out-cursed him (in Hindi no less! See? Learning a bit of the language is good thing).

The term “old broad” became a badge of honor, which I wear proudly.

Like so many women of a “certain age”, I spent a lot of time dreaming about travel without actually going anywhere. Then one day I did the unthinkable. I decided I would be that kick-ass adventurous woman I dreamt of being. So, I got a passport, bought a backpack and booked a flight to Nepal – And promptly went in to panic mode. You can read all about it in my blog post My First Time”, linked below.

Upcoming travel

It was a cold and stormy night (really, it was!) and this old broad got a little bored.  I didn’t feel like working out (surprise, surprise!) and I had eaten all the chocolate in the house. So, I started on my favorite hobby …  on-line travelling. Which resulted in my Amex being stretched to the limit.

Look for my blog posts in early 2023, when I travel to Buenos Aries and my ultimate destination – Antarctica! I will also return to Vietnam but this time NOT in Monsoon season!
